This document describes the use of cookies on the website of Tallinn University www.tlu.ee  and other websites maintained by Tallinn University, e. g. virtualtour.tlu.ee, adviser.tlu.ee 

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your computer or another device you use when you visit a website. This text file contains information that is used to improve the user experience of visitors to the specific website. Cookies are saved in the file directory of the Web browser on the hard disc of the website visitor’s end device. Next time upon visiting the same website the visitor’s Web browser reads the cookie and supplies the information back to the website or element that originally has installed the cookie. Cookies pose absolutely no threat to the website visitor’s computer.

What cookies are used by Tallinn University and for what purposes?

1. Session cookies

These are stored only temporarily for the duration of your visit to the website. Session cookies remind to the website what the visitor has chosen on the previous page to avoid repeated input of information.

2. Permanent cookies

These are stored for a specific period of time, but if desired, you can delete these cookies from your device yourself. The purpose of the permanent cookies are following:

Web browser identification – cookies that enable your web browser to be identified and allow safer usage of the website.

Usage statistics and analysis – cookies that provide information about how Swedbank websites are used and how often, what the user groups are and what search tools are used. Cookie statistics may  also be obtained from affiliate websites.

3. Third-party cookies

Tallinn University is using the cookies of third parties, e. g. Google to service ads and commercials. Third-party advertisers use the cookies that are saved on the end device to assess the efficiency of ads and individualize the contents of commercials displayed to the website visitor. 

How can a user choose and modify the use of cookies?

No cookies used by Tallinn University contain any personal data of the website visitor and cannot be used for the website visitor’s identification purposes. However, if you do not want cookies to be used on your devices, you can change the security settings of your web browser. You can modify cookie storage notification settings there or simply disable all cookies. You can also choose to delete all cookies that are stored on your device. Please note that changes in security settings need to be made on each browser individually and the settings displayed may differ. 

With time, Tallinn University may update and customise their cookies to improve the quality of our services.
